From 7th grade and up students should be allowed to get up and get the items they need during class without having to ask the teacher. I strongly believe and support this because I know how annoying it is when you just want a tissue but the teacher won’t call on you. I know that I am old enough to be able to get out of my seat and get something by myself.

To start off, when it’s a necessity to have to get up to get something or to sharpen your pencil, it takes too long. To do these simple tasks, doing it takes up too much time to have to raise your hand, wait for the teacher to call on you, and when you finally get called on you can get that one thing that you needed for those last 10 minutes that the teacher was talking.  But if you didn’t have to wait for the teacher you could just get up quietly and get that item that you needed and save precious time. And let’s be honest, it’s not like the entire class is going to need a tissue all at the same time. “ It’s pretty dumb,” Hurshell commented.

Having to wait to be called to get something is also incredibly annoying in the lunchroom. During lunchtime, other teachers are often busy talking to other fellow staff and never seem to notice that you had your hand up for 10 minutes. But when your hand finally gets spotted, and you try to tell the teacher what you need, they can’t hear you. So you end up wasting time and your voice just to get that dumb fork. Majority of students try to find a solution by just getting up without asking. I’ve witnessed this happen multiple times, and nothing bad ever happens. Sometimes this is unfair because specific tables can get away with getting up without asking and other tables get in trouble. If we didn’t have to ask, kids would also be able to finish lunches faster. Besides the teachers can see you anyway.

In conclusion 7th graders and up should be allowed to get up without asking, for beneficial reasons like we are old enough, it takes way too long to do something very simple, and in general, it’s just useless. I hope soon that students will be able to get up by themselves and save their precious time.
